Mindful Moments at YogaxLife

  • Yoga x Life Studios Bryson Court, Portland Road, Shieldfield Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE2 1DW England (map)

Relax, unwind and de-stress from your working week in this mindfulness class where you will be guided through gentle stretches, calming mindfulness meditations and thoughtful reflections.

The aim of the class is to teach you invaluable informal mindfulness techniques that you can apply to your everyday life outside of the class, without having to fork out extra time to meditate formally as well as providing you with a safe space to practice self care and formal meditation to benefit your mental health.

Suitable for beginners to experienced meditators.

This is the perfect way to finish the working week with some self care!

What to expect

Each class is taught in Surya at YogaxLife Studeios in Ouseburn. This is the smaller of the two studios and holds up to 15 participants plus the class teacher. The room is made cosy with candles, diffuser scents and relaxing mindfulness music. The overhead heaters are often used while participants are in meditation.

Each class follows a particular theme and is split into sections, each section relating back to the theme of the week.

The first section begins with introduction of the theme of the week followed y gentle mindful movement for up to 10 minutes. This involves gentle stretches to release tension, great for those with office jobs or those sat at a computer for long periods of time. This also often involves being taught how to move your body mindfully i.e. paying attention to the way the body feels rather than trying to get into a particular shape or movement.

The next section involves more in—depth discussion of the theme of the week, often using stories or poems. You will be guided through a 5-10 minute meditation in alignment with the theme, often introducing techniques in which you can apply the meditation techniques practiced to your everyday life.

The next section involves written exercises. You will be explained the purpose and significance of the activity and give plenty of time to participate. All resources including clipboards to lean on, resources and pens are provided. All written exercises provided are for you to take away.

Finally, you will be guided through a more lengthy meditation of up to 20 minutes. This longer meditation really allows you to assimilate the theme of the week and relax into the moment. The class is often closed with a thought-provoking poem.
